The two-day MBZ Majlis gave students a valuable insight into innovation-led careers at Strata, Yahsat, Cognit and many more.
With so many career opportunities in the UAE and the country investing in sectors like aerospace and satellite technology, it’s becoming harder than ever to choose the right education and job path.
That’s why it was fantastic to see thousands of students getting inspirational advice from the country’s leaders and champions of innovation at the Mohamed Bin Zayed Majlis for Future Generations.
The two-day event at ADNEC was packed full of stands giving information on some of the leading companies in the country, including Yahsat, Strata and Cognit, which are owned by Mubadala. In addition, there were a range of interactive competitions and workshops that spurred creative thinking.
Everything was geared toward helping students choose internships and employment in the UAE’s fastest growing sectors, and telling them about the skills they need to excel on an international level.
Homaid Al Shimmari, Chief Executive Officer, Aerospace & Engineering Services, Mubadala, gave students a speech packed full of inspirational words about grasping opportunities as the world heads into a new digital era.
“We have human interactions with robots, we have driverless cars – a surgeon in Cleveland Clinic in Ohio can command a robot to perform surgery on a patient in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi,” he said.
“The world is changing and we have to adapt to it. You’re young, you’re smart, you have great ideas. This is your time. Take risks, develop and nurture those ideas. Learn, innovate, think wild, and be smart.”
Inspired by his speech, students headed to the Strata stand where they learned about how they can grow their skills in the sector of aero-structures manufacturing. They saw first-hand how carbon fiber sheeting is made and got to try out virtual reality goggles.
Next door at the Yahsat stand, they discovered how they can help the company become a world leader in providing satellite solutions. There were even replicas of the company’s satellites to see the level of advanced technology up close.
Over at the Cognit stand, they interacted with IBM Watson’s smart robot, which uses cognitive computing to make human-like conversations. Students also used Cognit’s powerful career search app to find jobs that best match their skills, interests and educational field from a country-wide database.
